When faced with a natural disaster beyond their abilities to handle, the bat-like people of Wrombarra gather scientists from every corner of the galaxy to help. Druthel escorts an elite team of human scientists from Wespirtech back to his planet, but in his heart, he believes only one of them has the necessary background and intellect to save his world.

Can Druthel convince Rhiannon—a brilliant physicist with a dark secret—to put her past failures aside and open her heart to science again?

    Lunar Cavity Review

Posted by Nenekiri Bookwyrm on Aug 4th 2021

Mary knocked it out of the park again with this short, but sweet, story about a bat alien trying to save his planet from a planet-wide disaster. There’s a lot of little details that make this story compelling. The use of translators between Wrombarrans and humans, the ecology of the circle of life on Wrombarr, and the ways in which Druthel views the other scientists all made this very compelling for me. I wish we would have had more time with Druthel and Rhiannon, but I think the short amount of time works in the story’s favor. The scientists are all racing against the clock, so it wouldn’t make sense to slow down during that feverish phase of figuring solutions out.
